Fall Transition - Pt. 5 "The Nails"

Happy Friday!! Hope many of you are off to enjoy a fantastic Labor Day Weekend! This is the final installment of my "fall transition" so hope you are all as excited for great new fall looks as I am:)

95% of the time I get a mani (aside from maybe Christmastime) I get a neutral shade - boring, yes but they hide chips so well and changing a zillion diapers is not conducive to long lasting nail color!

"The Nails"
From This...

I love a good "bubble bath" mani, who doesn't?? This pretty pink neutral is lovely on pretty much everyone and I especially love it on my nails in warmer months.

To This...

The new neutrals from OPI's Germany collection are stunning!!! I am really excited to have a more "beige -y" neutral for fall.

Fall Transition - Pt. 4 "The Lips"

No secret around here that I am a lipgloss addict/junkie. I prefer a lighter more natural lip during warmer months when a bronzed glow takes center stage. When my freckles begin to fade a brighter and richer hue on my lips seems to work wonders!

"The Lips"

From This...
This has been my fave all summer. Super sheer with just a hint of color.

To This...

Is anyone else super excited about this product??!!! Glossy Stain, nice to meet you! Cannot wait to give this girl a whirl! And the colors she comes in are tremendous!

Fall Transition - Pt. 3 "The Scent"

There is nothing like being on the metro (or any confined space for that matter) on a sweltering day next to someone wearing a strong perfume, and often times too much of it. Summer months call for lighter, sweeter scents that pair well with light lotion but don't overwhelm any ones senses

"The Scent"

From This....

I have a slew of scents in my arsenal but I have a bottle of this on hand at all times, year after year (thanks mom). I do wear this year round, but in cooler months I punch it up with the body creme for a longer lasting scent. I do use it more frequently in summer months.

To This...

So lovely, a little woodsy and a parfum. It makes me think of fall and a pretty sweater. Perfect for daytime or a date night.

Fall Transition - Pt. 2 "The Bod"

The weather is cooler, tan lines begin to fade (boo-hoo) and unfortunately all of the sun worshipping has zapped your skin of all its moisture. Time to re-hydrate and maintain maximum elasticity!!

"The Bod"

From This....

I have used kiehls lightweight lotion for years, even though they discontinued my fave scents (coconut and almond!) the grapefruit is a staple from Easter to just after labor day. Its lightweight enough to use all summer long without feeling greasy or weighed down.

To This...

Often described as a "cult fave" this is thick enough to re- hydrate until swim season next year! Slather it on daily for the smoothest softest skin, I swear it almost makes your skin feel smoother too. **disclaimer: it can be a bit thick for some, and last year they launched a lighter version with all the same great benefits

Fall Transition - Pt. 1 "The Face"

Happy Monday!

I cannot believe that summer is coming to an end so shortly! With that being said, I am extremely excited for fall, I love football, cooler weather and especially fall fashion.

So over a couple of posts I want to share how I am planning to seamlessly transition my beauty regime from late summer to early fall..and hopefully not miss a beat!

"The Face"
From This....
I freckle big time during the summer so anything with lots of coverage is never an option. This everyday tinted moisturizer has been a godsend for day to day running around and magically has provided light coverage without making it look as though I was trying to hide my freckles!

To This.....

Get on this bus ASAP. BB cream, where have you been all of my life? In Asia mainly but thank goodness you have arrived. I am loving the SPF factor and its lightweight coverage, as my freckles begin to fade this will provide the best, most natural looking coverage!

The long and short of it...

Ugh, jeans. My lifelong nemisis. I know hubs even dreads it when I am in need of a pair or two. At 5'2 the entire denim process takes sometimes a week or two. Who wants to go shopping and not be able to wear your new duds for a week (at the earliest)?? Being preggo last fall left a serious gap in my "blues" for this season, so I have to remind myself of a few things before the hunt begins.

Rule # 1, have a good tailor. Being petite can be a nightmare, but having a good tailor (and patience - unfortunately) can ease lots of stress.

Rule # 2, ALWAYS pay the extra money to have the original hem sewn back in. There is nothing that can take beautiful designer denim and make it look like poo poo than a generic light blue hem that the seamstress puts in - a good tailor will know exactly how to re-attach without any puckering. Even Nordstrom charges extra for this but believe you me it is a must.

Rule # 3, pay attention to inseam length. Believe it or not skinny jeans are a godsend for little ladies. An ankle length or in some cases a "cropped" length in a skinny is exactly the correct inseam for a shorter frame, and since they are the same fit all the way down you wont appear to have an 80's style "tapered look"

Rule # 4, there is a difference between "petite" and "short" or "ankle", a "petite" cut is going to be smaller overall (you may want to take a size up if you don't fit in this category and just want a shorter length) an "ankle" or "short" will fit just like a regular length but with a shorter inseam. Unfortunately many of us fall somewhere between the two, which is wear Rule # 1,your trusted tailor, comes in to save the day!

Rule # 5, shop around and try to have fun. Knowing that the process will take a while ahead of time will help to lessen that bummed feeling with a heavy bag, empty pockets and still zero to wear that night.

A few of my fave....

Inspiring Spaces

Space is super limited in our itty bitty condo, with baby gear and diaper bags it somedays seems even smaller! Living a few miles from the capitol of the free world has many perks, affordable/spacious living does not happen to be one of them!

But a girl can dream right? In my "one day" space I will have a fabulous sewing/craft room, one which doesn't double as a desk and/or kitchen table. One that has a cheery bright color scheme with plenty of natural light pouring through big beautiful windows. One that while my sweet baby girl is taking an afternoon nap I can have a cup of tea in and embroider in until my hearts content...like I said a girl can dream.

Some simple inspiration for my "one day" creative space:)

A few fall pieces...

South Moon Under has always felt like my store, In college before they branched out to other cities and had features in fab mags, no one had a clue when I told them thats where I picked something up at home on break. I am so happy that they have branched out into so many other cities and lots of you ladies can pick up so many great pieces. From the best suits in the summer to the prettiest fall dresses and sweaters in the cooler months, the buyers are always on point. Here are a few of my faves for fall :)

Bring on the cooler months!

Beauty in under 5

5 minutes, that is the absolute maximum I have on a typical day before Ms. Peanut totally loses it. That is not much time. I usually forego eye makeup with the exception of mascara unless she takes a long morning nap. These are my go-to staples for a quick and polished look without tons of time or hassle.

Beauty in 5

Step 1 (30 seconds) Benefit Lemon- aid, dab on eye lid for an instant "I slept through the night" look!

Step 2 (45 seconds) Bobbi corrector, gently dab under the eye to conceal those black circles

Step 3 (30 seconds) My FAVE Bobbi Eye Brightener - brush attached sweep under eyes and over corrector

Step 4 (1 min max) take your foundation brush and squeeze a tiny dollop of tinted moisturizer on, a sweep on each cheek, another dollop one for the chin and forehead and you are done

Step 5 (30 seconds) take a big fluffy brush - any you have will work and sweep the shimmer brick all over, then sweep a little extra of the highlighter (the top whitish color) under your eyes around the tops of your cheek bones

Step 6 (30 seconds) Bobbi Pot Rogue, dab a little on that ring finger and tap tap tap each cheek, apples to hairline blending gently - doubles as a pretty lip color!!

Step 7 ( 1 min max) Mascara on, let dry coat just the tips with a second coat and you are done!

VOILA! BEAUTY IN UNDER 5!

Its on its way...

Fall...

Few things get me more excited for fall then the vogue " September" issue. I have such fond memories of laying out on the beach paging through it with my mom- who also adores the publication out in just a few days I cannot wait to pick up a copy

Making the switch..

The first place I always seem to transition is "tips and toes" nothing says fall like a pretty pedi in a deeper hue...Jeans and Flip flops and Long sleeves with shorts

How do you transition??

What Im loving

Seriously Loving the new emily giffin book....before Ms. Peanut I would have been able to finish this in a day, but its fun to read a few pages here and there (mostly while nursing) it makes the book last a bit longer :)

All the great ideas for re-purposing baby food jars, every time I rinse one out I think, I know there is a cute way to use these..enter Pinterest..

How perfectly Ms. Peanuts 6 month photo shoot turned out! I can't wait to blow a few up and frame them:)

"Twinning"

4 days at the beach with my oldest and dearest best friends (who happen to be twins) and we have 1 lousy picture, can you believe that???!!!! We were too busy having fun to remember to take any!

We had fantastic weather, great food, lots of drinks and some serious laughs. I cannot wait to see these two again this fall for a baby shower honoring one of them (the one with her hand on her teensy little bump - duh!)

How was your weekend??
