I really need help! I feel like its time to man(or lady in this case) up and get a big girl camera. My Iphone is often at capacity with photos and my little digi just doesn't take the pictures I want.
This is soo overwhelming! I have heard great things about the Canon Rebel series but wouldn't know where to begin there are so many models. A dear friend also has a Nikon which she loves but again I am totally clueless.
Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a Nikon D3000 2 years ago before Grayson was born. I love it! It takes great pictures. I've never learned how to REALLY use it, but even on just automatic it takes much better pictures than my old point & shoot.
I am a Canon girl...I got the rebel T1i 3 years ago,and it's super user friendly. IT's all about trial and error. Get a good lens, it also makes a huge difference. Mine came with the 18 55. the whole thing was around $1000 and worth every penny!
After much research, I bought a Canon Rebel T1i. This is pretty much the base model Canon Rebel. I was willing to spend the money on a nice camera but I went with a base model for two reasons. One, I was told that you're much better off spending money on the lens than the body. (For a non-professional at least). Second, I realized that unless I got VERY interested in photography and learned some advanced skills, I would never use the features that make the fancier models more expensive. I took an 8 week course after I bought my camera and I still don't feel entirely comfortable shooting in manual (nor do I feel it's necessary for me, but that's another matter.) My point (about time I come to it!) is that unless you see yourself getting very interested in photography and spending quite a bit of time learning how to use your camera, I would not spend a ton of money on a super swanky model. One of the "lower end" Canons or Nikons will work out just great. I've purchased a few new lenses for the camera and have been happy I spent the money there, as they've made a big difference. Hope that's helpful!
I just brought the Canon Rebel T3 like you have in the picture, I was recommended by a friend who had bought it and did a lot of research on cameras for beginners. Even just using auto the pictures are way clearer and I can tell a difference from my point and shoot pictures! I really need to get on taking a class so I feel more comfortable with it, but I'm very happy with my purchase! Happy camera shopping!
I have the Nikon D5000 and love it. You honestly can't go wrong...Nikon or Canon. They are both great cameras. They have a bit of a different feel in the hand, so after all the reviews (You honestly won't find anything definitive. Both are great cameras and people tend to go Nikon or Canon and stay that way) choose which one seems to work best for you. I have found this website to be an awesome resource to answer questions, compare models, get info on lenses, etc. And He talks through Nikon and Canon. Good luck!! http://www.kenrockwell.com
I have a Nikon D5000 and it's wonderful, I love it (fave lens is the 50mm 1.4)! It seems the great debate is between Canon and Nikon and if I were you I would go to a camera store and try each one. My mother in law has a pretty expensive Canon and I don't like it, but it's personal preference, I started out using Nikon and so I don't like the way the Canon controls are set. They will both take great photographs but see which feels best to you. It's often recommended to avoid a kit lens and I would agree with that! Get the camera body and invest in a great lens, it really does make a difference:) Happy shopping! P.S. I've heard great things about the Nikon D3100 too, very user friendly:)
I've heard such great things about both brands. I have a Nikon D3000 and love it. It's easy to learn to use and takes great pictures!
